The Health Ministry reported 358 cases of coronavirus in India in the last 24 hours. 300 cases were reported in Kerala alone. Meanwhile, 6 people have died due to coronavirus in the country. 


This includes two in Karnataka, one in Punjab, and three from Kerala. At present the number of active cases in the country is 2,669. Talking about the last 24 hours,

  • 2 cases of Corona have been reported in Uttar Pradesh.
  • 10 cases of corona have come from Maharashtra.
  • There have been 13 cases of Corona in Karnataka
  • 11 cases of Corona in Gujarat.

Let us tell you here that so far 21 cases of Covid's sub-variant JN.1 have been registered.

How dangerous is Corona JN.1 mutant?

Corona JN.1 virus is from the Omicron virus family which came in the third wave in India. This is a sub-variant of Omicron's Purola variant BA 2.86.


Dr. NK Arora, who was the Chairman of ICMR's Covert Task Force and is now the Chief of India's National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization, said that India is continuously surveilling the JN.1 variant after COVID-19. In such a situation, whenever a new virus comes, it is detected immediately. 


As far as this new variant JN 1 is concerned, there is no need to panic at all. This is a common variant. It is not dangerous.


Where and how many cases occurred in Corona JN.1?

Of the new cases of covert variant JN.1, 19 have been reported in Goa. Whereas one case each has been reported in Kerala and Maharashtra.


The central government has held a high-level meeting. They did so after an increase in COVID cases in the country and the emergence of the new JN.1 variant.


Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has asked the health ministers of various states to increase testing. He also told them to strengthen surveillance. Health Minister Mandaviya has said that we need to be alert, not panic. Keep taking precautions.
